Lost World I and II
Two paintings of endless rows of columns half-buried in golden sand, painted as one and then deliberately separated. These are two bird’s eye views of the lost world, with seen as the sun sets in the distance. Tempera paints, mixed with egg and linseed oil, create dream-like colours, old-master fresco colours like the pale yellows and shadows of rare green.
Once, we could travel there, to Libya’s lost worlds. That magic is now in the two canvases, separated, or put back very close together. The magic stays.
