Pegasus
The mythical warrior horse Pegasus is the son of the sea god Poseidon and snake-haired Medusa (she whose appearance turned men into stone). Because the goddess Athena had cursed her, he could not be born until the hero Perseus slew her and cut off her head with a sickle of diamond. Pegasus springs out from her decapitated neck. A gory beginning for the magic flying horse. I worked the piece in wax, rolling antique cylinders along the surface of the ‘skin’, seals engraved with an unknown symbolic language. Click on the image; look close, but it will never be deciphered. Nor would any other artist succeed in balancing the bronze on its lowest point.
